Ninth graders meet for one hour twice monthly in small groups. Each teacher uses a creative process oriented toward student discovery, and self expression. Rather than tell the students what is the central content of their course, the content is arrived at through group work and interaction. The main topic for this year is the very rich study and application of St. Paul: The Man and His Message. Students learn: St. Paul’s life and ministry, major themes and key passages of the Pauline Letters, and meaning of salvation and grace. Students also learn how to read passages from the Bible in a more enlightened way, taking into account the audience and purpose of the Gospels. The main texts used for this year are: Paul: The Man and the Message (Horizons Program) and Encounters with Jesus in the Gospels (Horizons Program).
10th Graders meet for one hour twice monthly in small groups. Each teacher uses a creative process oriented toward student discovery and self expression. Rather than tell students what is the central content of their course, the content is arrived at through group activities and interaction. The main topic of this Confirmation year is Discipleship. Students learn: that discipleship is a call to be in relationship with Jesus and to live life to its fullest; our search in life is driven by hungers; spirituality has personal and communal implications; what is an integrated and balanced Christian life; the Holy Spirit sustains and guides our spiritual lives. The text, The Challenge of Discipleship (Horizons Program) is used. Students also make a retreat together and this year will attend a Communion Breakfast with their parents.
